Silverfish
Adult silverfish are about 1/2 inch long and are silvery-gray in color. They are sometimes called bristletails because of their three pronounced tails and threadlike antennae.
Silverfish will hide during the day in tight crevices. They like dark, warm, and damp places such as basements or laundry rooms and are sometimes found trapped in bathtubs and sinks. They are also good climbers. Shake roofs are excellent breeding sites for silverfish during the warm weather months. The shake roof holds an abundance of moisture, cellulose, starch, and dead insects. From here, they can easily gain entrance and move down through the insulation to the sheetrock with its glue and paper coating below. You’ll notice them when they come down on ceiling soffits and drop from skylights and canister ceiling light fixtures.
Most infestions can be controlled by eliminating their moisture source and sealing up accessible cracks and crevices. If you have an infestation that is spread throughout your home or office, please contact Russell’s Pest Control for a professional inspection and advice.
